Aiken Land Conservancy Hike Series: Horse Creek Heritage Preserve
Join us for a Hike at a Heritage Preserve Normally Closed to Public Access
Part of ALC’s Monthly Hike Series
ALC has special permission from the South Carolina Department of Natural Resource (SCDNR) to access the 220-acre Horse Creek Heritage Preserve in Edgefield County. This 1-2 mile hike, led by Brian Long from SCDNR and Peter Kleinhenz, ALC’s Executive Director, will view a historic mill pond and late-1800’s pottery manufacturing site, complete with archaeological sites and cultural artifacts. We’ll visit a longleaf pine restoration site in addition to this cultural tour, normally closed to public access.
The hike will travel on roads and firebreaks and will be somewhat uneven. However, the distance will not be far, and we will make plenty of stops. This is a unique experience to visit a culturally significant property that few people have had the chance to visit.
Please note that, due to the sensitive nature of the site and limited parking, this visit will be limited to 30 participants.
