Aiken Land Conservancy Hike Series: Keadle Bridge Tract Hike

May 9 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am
Free

Our last hike of the season will take place at the recently acquired Keadle Bridge Tract. This 431-acre property contains incredible floodplains along the South Fork of the Edisto River, rare Atlantic white cedar swamp, and 1.2 miles of Edisto River frontage. Several rare plant and animal species have already been documented from the property and, when the property ultimately transfers to the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources to be added to the Aiken Gopher Tortoise Heritage Preserve, it’s likely that many more will be recorded.

This hike will be an adventure. While we will hike on forest roads part of the time, we will also explore areas off-trail that may be wet, muddy, and buggy. Based on past visits, it is extremely likely that we will encounter venomous snakes as well. We will hike approximately 2.5-3 miles total as we explore the property.

Where: Gate on Windsor Road, two gates north of Keadle Bridge near intersection of Kittery Street (33.525827, -81.407479)

When: Saturday, May 9th from 9-11

What to Bring: water, bug spray, boots and pants that can get wet and muddy, camera

Trail Conditions and Distance: Forest roads, as well as off-trail conditions with uneven footing, mud, and water. We will hike approximately 2.5-3 miles. Again, this hike will be an adventure.

Due to limited parking and the difficulty of the conditions, this hike will be limited to 30 participants total.
